Yankees Star Fireballer Reportedly Returning To Mound In Surprise Move
The New York Yankees reportedly have a reinforcement on his way back to the mound.
New York has dealt with a surprising amount of injuries this season. The Yankees haven't had the season they expected to have and injuries are a major reason why. New York has seemingly dealt with injuries across the roster, even from players who didn't spend the entire season with the club.
The Yankees surprisingly were quiet around the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline but did acquire star relief pitcher Keynan Middleton from the Chicago White Sox. The fireballer impressed compiling a minuscule 0.68 ERA across 11 appearances with the Yankees but hasn't appeared in a game since August 31st due to a shoulder injury.
Although the Yankees aren't playing for much and have just four games left, Middleton reportedly could return to the hill before the season in a surprise move, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.
"(Right-handed pitcher) Keynan Middleton tossed a bullpen at Yankee Stadium that was said to have gone well," Hoch said. "He's expected to rejoin the team in Kansas City for their final series this weekend."
Middleton will be a free agent this upcoming offseason so the fact that he is returning to the hill for New York could be a sign of a possible move to come. The Yankees could be interested in re-signing Middleton this offseason and getting one more look at him this season could help with that.
