Yankees Superstar Reveals Strategy For Convincing New Slugger To Re-Sign
After the New York Yankees had one of their worst seasons in recent memory during 2023, ownership and the front office knew they had to make some changes to ensure that didn't happen again.
Adding quality players this offseason was massively important to giving this team the best possible chance at competing.
The Yankees swung for the fence when they put together a blockbuster deal to acquire Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres.
Soto is one of the best players in the game and should provide a massive boost to this lineup.
However, that move is certainly risky.
New York gave up a lot for a potential one-year rental, as the young star is set to hit free agency following the 2024 season.
Of course, if they win their first World Series title since 2009 then that trade was worth it, but they would ideally like to have Soto in the Bronx for multiple years.
Yankees superstar Aaron Judge revealed the strategy he has for trying to convince their newly acquired player to re-sign with the team.
"The biggest thing is being there for him. Being a good teammate, supporting him ... That's the biggest thing I got from all of my teammates -- you don't have to carry the team every single night," he told reporters according to Phillip Martinez of SNY.
That might not sound like a lot, but it helped sway Judge himself into re-signing with New York when he was a free agent.
The support he received on and off the field from his teammates was a major deciding factor in him returning to the Yankees.
Judge also mentioned he thinks the fans will play an important role as well.
"The fans when we show up April 5 will do a lot of convincing, too. I think we'll be good," he added.
Judge knows there will be a lot of pressure for Soto to perform in New York, something that comes with the territory. But it's also a great environment for players of Soto's profile to perform on the biggest stage and have a passionate fanbase behind him every single night.
Only time will tell if this strategy will convince the 26-year-old slugger to re-sign with the Yankees, but it worked for Judge in the past and it just might work for Soto.
