Yankees Top Target May Be Interested In Joining Club According To Latest Chatter
Will the New York Yankees improve the starting rotation this offseason?
New York entered the 2023 campaign with one of the top rotations on paper led by Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón but injuries and inconsistent play decimated the club. The Yankees will need to return to the drawing board and rebuild the rotation.
The Yankees have been linked to a few stars already and it's clear that rumors are going to continue to swirl until the club actually can make a move. One player who has popped up on numerous occasions is Orix Buffaloes young ace, Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Unsurprisingly, Yamamoto will end up being one of the most sought-after free agents this offseason and the latest update about his plans could be good news for Yankees fans, according to The Athletic's Will Sammon.
"Similar to how (Kodai Senga) felt last offseason, Yamamoto covets the opportunity to play in a large market, league sources say," Sammon said. "The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and New York Yankees, among others, profile as teams that could make a serious run at Yamamoto."
New York certainly fits the description as a large market. The Yankees arguably are in the biggest market in baseball and if Yamamoto were to join the fold he immediately would improve the club. New York needs to make a major splash or two this offseason and signing Yamamoto is the perfect place to start. Yamamoto and Cole immediately would be among the best duo in baseball and drastically improve the club's rotation.
The Yankees have plenty of talent on the roster and could return to the playoffs in 2024. If New York could sign Yamamoto, they could be contenders once again.
