The most important offseason in over a decade brings challenges to the New York Yankees' front office. Those challenges can be solved by signing or trading for the players that will make this Yankees team immediately better.

Of those available, none are more important than Juan Soto. The 25-year-old is arguably the best pure hitter in baseball and gives New York a much-needed boost. Outside of the fact that the Yankees need a left-handed hitter, putting a name in the middle of the lineup as Soto does so much for the rest of the lineup.

This isn't a Joey Gallo signing where New York fans hope he can sneak home runs over the right-field wall. Soto, at worst, is a top-five hitter in the sport. He poses a huge threat to every team the Yankees face moving forward.

When it's all said and done, not making a deal for Soto could go down as one of the worst possible decisions for New York. Perhaps, even worse than not signing Bryce Harper when they had the opportunity.

Mike Petriello of MLB.com ranked the best suitors for the superstar and listed the Yankees as the No. 1 option.

"Five seasons ago, the Yankees were considered to be one of the favorites to sign a young, elite, left-handed-hitting corner outfielder who had made his debut with the Nationals at 19 years old and grew up idolizing a Yankee. They chose not to sign Bryce Harper, who wanted to imitate Mickey Mantle and went on to star with the Phillies instead, much to the chagrin of Yankees fans. They have the chance to rectify that error this time around by adding Soto, who grew up watching Robinson Cano’s heyday in pinstripes."

New York missed out on Harper in a big way. They now have a chance to add another player of that caliber if they are aggressive enough to get a deal done.

Petriello also points out that this not only makes sense for the Yankees financially, but it could boost their franchise in future years.

"It's that they can afford to sign him long term, and if they do, given his age, then in a dozen years or so, we'll be talking about the next superstar who grew up watching Soto become a Yankees legend," he wrote.

The organization has the chance to get its next legend right now and pair him with Aaron Judge for years to come.

There should be no reason why they can't get this deal done.
