Jon Jones will have surgery after suffering an injury in training, he announced Wednesday.

Jones was forced to withdraw from UFC 178 on Tuesday after injuring his leg in training. MMAFighting.com reports that Jones "suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and a sprained ankle during a wrestling practice on Monday."

Jones was scheduled to fight Daniel Cormier in the main event at UFC 178 in late-September. Their fight has been pushed back to Jan. 3.

UFC 178 was originally supposed to be a light heavyweight championship rematch between Jones and Alexander Gustaffson, but Gustaffson pulled out with a knee injury.

After Cormier was announced as Gustaffson's replacement, Jones and Cormier brawled at a media event promoting their fight. They were later caught by a hot mic exchanging profane smack talk before an ESPN interview.

The main event for UFC 178 will now be a flyweight championship fight between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso.
