In Game 4 of the 2001 World Series, Tino Martinez sends the game into overtime with a two-out homer off Diamondbacks' closer Byung-Hyun Kim and Derek Jeter, dubbed Mr. November, wins it after the stroke of midnight with a full count two-out round tripper giving the Bronx Bombers a 3-2 victory and knots the series at two games apiece.

In a three-team deal involving 10 players and/or draft choices, the Rams trade Eric Dickerson to the Colts for six draft choices and two players. Buffalo obtains the rights to Cornelius Bennett from Indianapolis, sending Greg Bell and three draft choices to the Rams. The Colts add Owen Gill and three draft choices of their own to complete the deal.

On Halloween night, former Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein resigns from the Red Sox and eludes the media parked outside Fenway Park disguised in a gorilla suit. At a future charity event, the hairy costume will be auctioned and will make $11,000 for the Jimmy Fund and Epstein's Foundation To Be Named Later.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Gaylord Perry wins his first of two Cy Young awards. Perry would win again with the Padres in 1978, making him the first pitcher to win the award in both the American and National League.
