New York is led by the inspirational play of injured center Willis Reed, who limped onto the court and scored the game's first two baskets, and guard Walt Frazier, who led the Knicks with 36 points and 19 assists.

After Cubs skipper Whitey Lockman is ejected in the 11th inning of a Jack Murphy Stadium contest, Ernie Banks takes his place for the last few innings of the Cubs 3-2, 12-inning victory over the Padres. He technically becomes the first black manager of a major league team.
