Curt Flood
The U.S. Supreme Court, by a vote of 5-3, confirms the lower court's ruling in the Curt Flood case, upholding baseball's exemption from antitrust laws. Flood (pictured here with former players' union head Marvin Miller) challenged baseball's reserve clause and sought free agency.
Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson
Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson get into a dugout altercation after Martin pulled Jackson off the field in mid-inning for failing to hustle on a ball hit to the outfield. Also, on this day in 1979, Billy Martin returned to the dugout to manage the Yankees for second time.

Don Sutton
Angels' hurler Don Sutton becomes the 19th major league pitcher to win 300 games as the Alabama native three-hits the Rangers, 4-1. The 43-year-old right-hander won a total of 324 games during his 23-year career.
