New York pitcher Jim Abbott no-hits the Indians at Yankee Stadium, 4-0. The Michigan native, who was born without a right hand, becomes the first Yankee in a decade to throw a no-no.

In Miami's 39-35 victory over New England, Dan Marino becomes the second quarterback with 300 touchdown passes by throwing for five scores. The Dolphins' QB also establishes an NFL record with his 18th game of four-or-more touchdown passes.

The Red Sox honor Hall of Fame catcher Carlton Fisk. The New Hampshire resident, who played his first nine seasons with Boston, joins Bobby Doerr (1), Joe Cronin (4), Carl Yastrzemski (8) and Ted Williams (9) in having his number (27) retired at Fenway Park.
