135th Preakness Stakes
And they're off ... for the running of the 135th Preakness Stakes.
Twelve horses were in the field for the Preakness, the second leg of the Triple Crown.
First Dude (right) maintained the lead through the third turn after pulling ahead of Super Saver.
Lookin At Lucky moved into contention in the final turn...
... and sprinted to the finish ahead of First Dude by three-quarters of a length.
Lookin At Lucky won the Preakness, ending Super Saver's bid to become the first Triple Crown winner in 32 years.
Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver (white helmet) faded to eighth as the 9-5 favorite in the 12-horse field, squandering a perfect trip and foiling jockey Calvin Borel's bid for a Triple Crown.
Super Saver finished eight after being one of the leaders early in the race.
"When I asked him, he kind of just folded up. It happens," said Borel.
Jockey Martin Garcia helped Lookin At Lucky stay out of trouble.
Garcia stayed ahead of Ramon Dominguez, who was aboard First Dude (right).
Lookin At Lucky ran 1 3/16 miles in 1:55.47.
Jackson Bend (purple helmet) was third and Yawanna Twist (far left, red helmet) was fourth.
Jockey Martin Garcia wins the 135th running of the Preakness Stakes.
Lookin At Lucky was favored in the Derby, but finished sixth on a sloppy track.
This time the horse was ridden by Martin Garcia, who replaced Garrett Gomez after Lucky's disappointing Derby run.
It was the ninth win in a Triple Crown race for trainer Bob Baffert, who also won his fifth Preakness, tying him for second place with D. Wayne Lukas.
