Due to a dislocated thumb caused by a collision at home plate in the first game of a doubleheader against the Braves, Padres' first baseman Steve Garvey sees his consecutive game streak ends at 1,207.

Mike Boddicker

The Orioles trade pitcher Mike Boddicker to the Red Sox in return for Brady Anderson and Curt Schilling. Boddicker will have two successful years with Boston while Anderson will become a productive leadoff man for Baltimore and Schilling will become one of the most dominant pitchers of his era.

Rick Sutcliffe

Rick Sutcliffe steals home, becoming the first pitcher since Pascual Perez in 1984 to accomplish the feat.

Bob Wickman

The Brewers hold Bob Wickman All-Star Poster Night a day after the team trades their All-Star reliever to the Indians.

Scott Rolen

The Phillies trade 27-year-old third baseman Scott Rolen along with minor league reliever Doug Nickle to the Cardinals in exchange for infielder Placido Polanco, southpaw Bud Smith and reliever Mike Timlin.

Bill Mueller

Boston's Bill Mueller becomes the first player in MLB history to hit grand slams from both sides of the plate in a game. He ends up with a total of three home runs in the game and collects nine RBIs. It was only the 12th time that a player hit two grand slams in a single game.

Mark Teixeira

In a surprising pre-deadline trade, the Braves and Angels exchange first basemen as Mark Teixeira (pictured) is sent to Los Angeles with Casey Kotchman (along with minor league pitching prospect Steve Marek) going to Atlanta.
