Athletes and Their WAGs: '80s Edition
Mark Gastineau and Brigitte Nielsen
Mark Gastineau, a key cog in the Jets' "New York Sack Exchange" defense of the '80s, started dating Nielsen in early 1988 after her divorce from Sylvester Stallone. Midway through the '88 season, the Jets linebacker announced that he was retiring to take care of Nielsen, whom he feared had uterine cancer. He later admitted the real reason for his retirement was out of fear that he'd fail another steroid test. The couple had a son, Killian, in 1989, but the relationship ended soon after.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Cheryl Pistono
