WWE has suspended wrestling legend Jerry Lawler after he and his fiancée were arrested after a domestic assault incident on Thursday night, WWE announced on Friday.
“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Jerry Lawler has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest,” WWE said in a statement.
Lawler, 66, and his 27-year-old fiancée, Lauryn McBride, were arrested and booked on domestic assault charges because police could not determine who the aggressor was in the incident, according to Fox 13 Memphis.
McBride told police a verbal altercation between her and Lawler turned violent when he struck her in the head and pinned her against the stove in their kitchen. She also said she kicked Lawler in the groin, threw a candle at him and scratched his face.
Both McBride and Lawler credited the other with retrieving a hand gun and placing it on the kitchen counter. McBride said Lawler told her to kill herself, while Lawler said McBride was drunk and he was trying to stop her from leaving the house.
Because of the differences in their accounts, both parties were arrested.
