Several Confederate Flags Were Seen Outside Talladega Speedway

Last week, NASCAR banned confederate flags inside of their racetracks in response to protests against racial injustice in the United States. SI's Madelyn Burke shares an update on what happened at Talladega. 

Despite NASCAR’s recent ban of the Confederate Flag at it’s events, some fans were determined to have the symbol seen Sunday.Cars lined the road outside Talladega Superspeedway waving the flag, and a plane flew above the track towing a banner of the Confederate flag that said "Defund NASCAR."

Though none of the flags were displayed inside the facility, NASCAR has not outlined how it plans to stop fans from displaying the flag on track property.Monday's race, which will start at 3 p.m. ET, will be the first amid the coronavirus pandemic in which NASCAR has opened the gates to fans.
