Multiple teams looking at Dampier
The Rockets, Raptors, Heat and Suns are among the teams interested in signing free agent center Erick Dampier, multiple league sources told SI.com
Dampier, 35, was waived by the Charlotte Bobcats this week. The 6-foot-11, 265-pound Dampier averaged 6.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in 55 games (47 starts) with Dallas last season and 1.0 points in five playoff games. In 13 year, Dampier has averaged 7.8 points and 7.4 rebounds playing with Indiana, Golden State and Dallas. The Bobcats, who acquired Dampier along with Matt Carroll and Eduardo Najera in exchange for Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca, released Dampier to avoid paying his $13 million salary, which was non-guaranteed for next season.
The Houston Chronicle reported Wednesday the Rockets extended a two-year, $4 million offer to Dampier. An NBA source said that in addition to Dampier, the Rockets are negotiating with Jazz free agent center Kyrylo Fesenko.
Another team that could get into the discussions for Dampier is Philadelphia. The Sixers traded starting center Samuel Dalembert to Sacramento and are thin at the position, with only newly acquired Spencer Hawes and Tony Battie as natural centers on the roster.
