The Heat have agreed to trade center Dexter Pittman and a 2013 second-round pick to the Grizzlies for the rights to Ricky Sanchez and a trade exception, according to Yahoo! Sports, ESPN.com and USA Today Sports.

The Grizzlies are over the salary cap but are able to receive Pittman without sending out salary because multiple trade exceptions were created in moves earlier this year.

Miami has been at the 15-man roster limit so this move frees up a roster spot, potentially allowing the Heat to target buyout candidates or other free-agent signings.

Pittman, 24, was a second-round pick in 2010 who has played a total of just 324 minutes in two-plus years with the Heat. He averaged 1.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in just four appearances this season. He spent times this season in the D-League with the Sioux Falls SkyForce and battled weight issues earlier in his career.

Pittman joins a Memphis team that lost power forward Marreese Speights and center Hamed Haddadi to trades last month. His contract expires at the end of this season.
