The Bucks announced Wednesday that interim coach Jim Boylan will not return for the 2013-14 season.

"On behalf of the Bucks organization, I thank Jim for his five years here and his many contributions on and off the court," Bucks GM John Hammond said in a statement. "We appreciate Jim’s efforts not only in his time as head coach, but in his entire tenure as a coach in Milwaukee. At this time we feel it’s in the best interest of the organization to seek a new coach to lead our team."

Boylan, 58, stepped into the interim role back in January after the Bucks parted ways with Scott Skiles, who had coached the team since 2008. Boylan had previously served as lead assistant under Skiles

After a 16-16 start under Skiles, the Bucks went 22-28 under Boylan to finish in the Eastern Conference's No. 8 playoff spot. The Bucks were then swept in four games by the No. 1 seeded Heat.

Back in March, Brandon Jennings expressed dissatisfaction with a second-half benching during a loss to the Sixers.

“I don’t see any All-Stars in this locker room,” Jennings said.

“I think that everyone should be held accountable,” Jennings said. “There’s no maxed-out players in this locker room. So don’t try to put me on a pedestal and just give everyone else the freedom to do whatever they want.”

Later that month, Jennings took a shot at Boylan on Twitter after a loss to the Thunder. He later deleted the message.

"Took a timeout with [29 seconds] down 10 [points]. Didn't know [there] was 10-point plays!!!"

J.J. Redicktold the Journal Sentinel in April that he had not communicated with Boylan during the playoffs.

Bucks coach Jim Boylan said in his pregame remarks that he told Redick to shoot with confidence but Redick disputed that.

"Jim never talked to me," Redick said. "He didn't say anything to me. I haven't spoken to him during the playoffs. I did not get that message. I don't need anybody telling me to be confident. I would have appreciated it."

Just a few weeks after parting ways with Skiles, the Bucks gave Hammond a three-year contract extension. Milwaukee faces a huge summer as a number of key players -- Jennings, Redick Monta Ellis and Mike Dunleavy, among them -- require contract decisions.

Boylan previously stepped in for Skiles as interim coach of the Bulls during the 2007-08 season, only to be replaced by Vinny Del Negro the following season. He joins Mike Dunlap (fired by Bobcats), Lawrence Frank (fired by Pistons), Byron Scott (fired by Cavaliers), and Doug Collins (stepped down from Sixers) as coaches to lose their jobs since the end of the 2012-13 season. Interim coach Lindsey Hunter's future with the Suns also remains up in the air.
