The Hawks selected Dennis Schroeder with the No. 17 pick in the NBA draft on Thursday. Here's a look at Schroeder and how he fits with Atlanta:
Bio: Germany | 19 years old | Point Guard
Vitals: 6-2, 165 pounds
Strengths: Schroeder has all the qualities you could want in a point guard: confidence in directing an offense, a quick first step and strong ball-handling skills. Just 19, he already excels in running the pick-and-roll, making quick decisions as needed. On the defensive end, he uses his speed and length to make his mark uncomfortable.
Weaknesses: Decision-making and maturity are two areas in which Schroeder must improve. He's an excellent playmaker, but he has been known to force action, which has made him turnover-prone throughout his young career. Scouts have also expressed concern about his attitude on the court, but one told Chris Mannix "it's nothing that would make me pass him up."
What Scouts Say: "He's got those long arms and dynamic skills," a West executive said of Schroeder. "He's so poised," an international scout added. "The way he weaves in and out of the paint, the way he creates, he is a high-level talent."
