Nets' Deron Williams in walking boot, will be re-evaluated later in week

The Nets haven't had much good news this season, to say the least. Their current three-game winning streak is the high-water mark of its desolate season.

Unfortunately for Brooklyn, the low tide appears to be coming once again.

The Nets announced on Tuesday that three-time All-Star guard Deron Williams is in a walking boot and will be re-evaluated later in the week after undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy and receiving a cortisone shot in his sprained left ankle.

The injury means Williams will miss Brooklyn's clash against Golden State on Wednesday and possibly meetings with Miami and Toronto later in the week.

Williams' left ankle has already cost him time this season, leading the point guard to appear in just 22 of 34 games. But even when he's been healthy enough to play, Williams has struggled, much like the new-look Nets (13-21). The 29-year-old is averaging just 13.6 points and 6.9 assists, the lowest marks since his rookie year in 2005-06.

But Williams had started to show some life of late, leading Brooklyn to a season-high-tying winning streak. He dropped 21 points and 29 points, respectively, in the team's last two wins, and hit 7-of-12 from three-point range.

Shaun Livingston, who is averaging 6.8 points and 3.3 assists in 23.2 minutes, will likely replace Williams in the starting lineup. The Nets have already been playing without All-Star center Brook Lopez, who was lost for the season with a foot injury of his own.
