2014 NBA All-Star Game sets record for most points in a half with 165

The first half of the NBA All-Star Game did its best to make up for the disappointment of last night's Slam Dunk Contest.

The Eastern Conference and Western Conference All-Star squads combined to score 165 points (89-76)  in the first half of Sunday night's showcase, setting a new All-Star record. The West's 89 points in a half were also an All-Star record.

The total of 165 points eclipsed the old record of 157 points, set in 1988 and 2012. The West broke its own record after setting a new high last year with 88.

Kevin Durant led both teams in scoring with 22 points (9-of-14 shooting). Fellow Western starter Blake Griffin had 20.

For the East, Carmeo Anthony scored 20 first-half points and LeBron James added 12.

The two teams combined to shot 56.1 percent from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers.

The 165 combined pts at half time is more than the totals in 18 NBA games this season.
