The Nuggets announced Thursday that center JaVale McGee will miss the remainder of the 2013-14 season after undergoing surgery to address a stress fracture in his left tibia.

“While it’s disappointing that we won’t have JaVale back on the court this season, we’re happy that he can move forward in his recovery,” Nuggets GM Tim Connelly said in a statement.

McGee, 26, made just five appearances for Denver this season, averaging 7 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game. The Nuggets announced in November that McGee would be out indefinitely after suffering the stress fracture but the time off did not help him get back to the court.

The news continues a bad string of injury-related developments for the Nuggets. Forward Danilo Gallinari has missed the entire season recovering from a knee injury, undergoing a second surgery back in January, while guard Nate Robinson also went down with a season-ending knee injury last month.

McGee is on the books for $10.8 million this season. He is currently in the second year of a four-year, $44 million contract with the Nuggets.
