J.R. Smith pulled down Vince Carter's headband during New York's 110-108 home loss to Dallas on Monday.

The 2013 Sixth Man of the Year just can't keep his hands to himself. With a little under 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and Dallas leading 90-85, the two players prepared for a Mavericks offensive possession. As Carter walked to his spot with his head down, Smith used his right hand to pull down Carter's headband over his left ear.

Carter took exception to Smith's action -- mildly -- and he could be seen fiddling with his headband as he prepared to run a pick-and-roll with Dirk Nowitzki.

Smith's unusual on-court shenanigans landed him in hot water back in January, when the NBA fined him $50,000 for "recurring instances of unsportsmanlike conduct" after he repeatedly attempted to untie the shoelaces of his opponents.

Knicks coach Mike Woodson called those actions "unacceptable" and "unprofessional," and Smith went on to issue an apology.

“Huge apologies to my team, to the league [and] most of all you the fans,” Smith wrote on Twitter.

New York fell to Dallas on Monday after Smith was unable to get a shot off on the Knicks' final possession, setting up a Dirk Nowitzki buzzer-beating game-winner.

Carmelo Anthony, who uncharacteristically hesitated before passing off to Smith on New York's final play, tallied a game-high 44 points (on 14-for-29 shooting), nine rebounds and four assists. Smith added 15 points (on 7-for-16 shooting), seven assists and four rebounds off the bench in a losing effort.

Carter led the Mavericks with 23 points (on 8-for-17 shooting), three rebounds and three assists. Nowitzki finished with 15 points (on 6-for-13 shooting), three assists and two steals.

Dallas improved to 35-23 with the win. New York dropped to 21-36 with the loss.
