The Bucks announced Thursday that Ersan Ilyasova will be shut down for the remainder of the 2013-14 season due to a right ankle injury.

Ilyasova, 26, was examined this week by Dr. Richard Ferkel, a foot and ankle specialist who recommended that the Turkish forward rest and rehabilitate his ankle rather than undergo surgery.

The Journal Sentinel reports that Ilyasova first injured his ankle during the preseason and that the injury lingered throughout the year. He did not play in the Bucks' loss to the Clippers on Monday because of the ailment.

Injuries have played a major role in Milwaukee's nightmare campaign: center Larry Sanders missed a significant stretch with a thumb injury before suffering an orbital fracture that ended his 2013-14 season, guard Nate Wolters recently had his season ended by a broken hand, and guard/forward Carlos Delfino missed the entire year with a foot injury.

Ilyasova averaged 11.2 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 26.9 minutes per game over 55 appearances this season. He shot just 40.2 percent from the field and a career-low 28.2 percent from behind the arc.
