Nets guard Deron Williams will undergo surgery on both of his ankles next week, according to a team release. The procedure on his right ankle will remove a bone chip while the procedure on his left ankle will be an arthroscopic cleanout to remove multiple bone spurs. Williams is expected to make a full recovery, though no specific timetable is noted.
Williams missed 16 games this season as a result of ankle injuries, though he's had lingering trouble in those particular joints since joining the Nets. Over the past two seasons, in particular, Williams has played through pain and limitation to the point of missing time, requiring a steady string of cortisone shots and publicly considering surgery. Williams tried out a variety of reported treatments but never previously went under the knife to address the issues in either ankle. You can find a full review of Williams' recent injury history here.
