Erik Spoelstra on LeBron James: 'We don't have any regrets'
Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra spoke onLeBron James' decision to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first time on Tuesday, saying, "We don't have any regrets. He shouldn't have any regrets. It was a historic four-year run."
Spoelstra said James seemed "at peace with the decision," and said while the Heat didn't foresee James leaving, he knows that change in the NBA is inevitable and those involved have to be able to adapt to it.
"This is a big, monumental change that we didn't necessarily anticipate but you have to respect it because when you're a free agent in this league you have the right to make a decision that's best for you and your family," said Spoelstra. "When he made that decision that was best for his family, where his heart is, all you can do from our side is respond with respect and love."
Spoelstra also talked about immediate reaction from the Heat front office after James made his decision public on SI.com, calling it "two or three hours of a lot of uneasiness." He said things didn't relax until they heard back from Chris Bosh, who re-signed with Miami. Dwyane Wade also re-signed with the team.
