Cleveland Cavaliers sign Andrew Wiggins, can't trade him for 30 days
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Andrew Wiggins, has signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team announced Thursday.
Due to league rules that ban rookies from being dealt in the first 30 days after signing their contract, Wiggins cannot be traded until Aug. 23. Wiggins' name has been linked to trade rumors involving Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love.
Cleveland had reportedly refused to include Wiggins in trade talks with Minnesota. Head coach David Blatt said July 13 that Wiggins was "not going anywhere."
On Thursday, The News-Herald reported the Cavaliers are willing to include Wiggins in a potential trade package for Love.
The Chicago Bulls have reportedly made an offer for Love, but that trade would not be able to happen for 28 more days, because two rookies, Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic signed their deals Tuesday
Marc Stein of ESPN reports that Minnesota's best offer for Love so far is Cleveland's offer that includes Wiggins.
The Cavaliers also announced the signing of second-round draft pick Joe Harris.
