Dallas may end up signing free agent forward Rashard Lewis following his knee surgery, Mavericks beat reporter Dwain Price tweeted this week.

The two-time All-Star had agreed in July to a one-year minimum salary deal with the team after spending the last two seasons with the Miami Heat. The Mavs voided the contract soon after discovering he would require knee surgery. Price's information comes from Mavericks President of Basketball Operations Donnie Nelson, who said the team would reconsider bringing Lewis back once they see how he recovers from the surgery. Lewis, who turns 35 next week, won a championship with the Heat 2013 but averaged just 4.5 points for them last season.

The news is similar to the situation the team faced last summer; the Mavericks had found out during Devin Harris' physical that he needed toe surgery, so he returned to the team on a reduced contract before re-signing this offseason.

The Mavericks have had a fairly busy summer, signing former Rockets swingman Chandler Parsons to a three-year, $46 million deal and acquired Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton in a trade with the New York Knicks. Dallas also acquired Al-Farouq Aminu and Jameer Nelson to add to their revamped roster.
