Sam Cassell reportedly leaves Wizards for Clippers assistant coaching job
Former NBA player Sam Cassell -- an assistant coach with the Wizards since 2009 -- has left Washington for a job as an assistant coach on the Clippers' bench, according to tweets Saturday night from J. Michael of CSN Washington.
The 44-year three time NBA Champion, who spent three years as a player with the Clippers, was under contract with the Wizards, so Washington won't receive anything in return because he is technically a free agent. Clippers president of basketball operations and head coach Doc Rivers has been tasked this summer with finding replacements for Alvin Gentry, who left for the Warriors, and Tyronn Lue, who is now in Cleveland as an assistant under first-year NBA head coach David Blatt.
Cassell won two championships with the Rockets in the 1990s and one with the Boston Celtics in 2008, his final year in the NBA as a player.
