Derrick Rose, Mason Plumlee among 12 to make Team USA's final cut

Team USA announced its final 12-man roster for the FIBA World Cup early Saturday morning, cutting Damian Lillard, Kyle Korver, Chandler Parsons and Gordon Hayward.

Derrick Rose, who is recovering from a season-ending knee surgery, was among the 12 players selected by Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski and managing director Jerry Colangelo. The Bulls star played 13 minutes in Team USA's 112-86 exhibition win over Puerto Rico on Friday, scoring six points (2-of-3 FG) and adding four assists and two rebounds with no turnovers.

Joining Rose in the U.S.' backcourt will be Stephen Curry (Warriors), Kyrie Irving (Cavaliers), James Harden (Rockets), Klay Thompson (Warriors) and DeMar DeRozan (Raptors). In the frontcourt, the U.S. selected Anthony Davis (Pelicans), Kenneth Faried (Nuggets), DeMarcus Cousins (Kings), Rudy Gay (Kings), Andre Drummond (Pistons) and Mason Plumlee (Nets).

“Since taking over the USA Basketball Men’s National Team program in 2005, this was without doubt the most difficult selection process we’ve gone through,” Colangelo said in a release.

The U.S. elected to go big with its roster for Spain, selecting three backup centers in Cousins, Drummond and Plumlee. Krzyzewski said Friday night that he wanted to take five big men at a big men to the World Cup, but with the preference being on six.

DeRozan was the only player to make the final 12-man cut that didn't play in Friday night's game against Puerto Rico.

“I’m excited about the 12 players selected and feel we have excellent versatility and the makings of a really good defensive team," Krzyzewski said.

Team USA plays one final exhibition against Slovenia on Aug. 26 before beginning the FIBA tournament on Sept. 1.
