Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle: Chandler Parsons is too heavy
Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said new the team's new signee Chandler Parsons bulked up too much, recently, and actually needs to lose weight.
For the second time during Mavericks training camp, Carlisle noted Parsons needed to trim down from his current 235 pound figure, which could be a result of his emphasizing weight-training during the offseason. The six-foot-nine-inch player was listed at 215 pounds during his tenure with the Houston Rockets.
Carlisle told ESPN.com's Tim MacMahon:
"He looked tired out there tonight to me, and his shot is short."
"He's working on losing some weight. He's a little bit heavier than he's been. He's up over 230, and we want to see him get down to at least 225. That's a work in progress, and tonight's one of those nights where I think the extra weight was a hindrance."
Parsons, however, doesn't exactly agree with his coach.
"His opinion of heavy is different than mine."
"We kind of go at it every day about it. At the end of the day, I respect his opinion. After training camp, my weight fluctuates. I'll get it down."
Parsons, who is No. 56 on SI.com's Top 100 players list, signed a three-year, $46 million deal with the Mavericks this off-season. He recently told reporters he would have accepted less money to stay with Houston. The Rockets' final offer to Parsons was a two-year deal worth more than $30 million.
