The Los Angeles Lakers and forward Earl Clark are close to finalizing a one-year deal, Baxter Holmes of ESPN reported Wednesday.

The deal would be pro-rated at the veteran minimum. The Lakers are 3-11, and have lost three players to season-ending injuries. Reserve swingman Xavier Henry went down this week with an Achilles injury, point guard Steve Nash suffered a back injury and rookie power forward Julius Randle broke his leg in the season opener.

Clark, 26, is averaging nearly 29 points per game in four games this season with Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. The fifth-year NBA veteran played for the Lakers in 2012-13, averaging a career-high 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He started 36 of the 59 games he appeared in that season.

Lakers head coach Byron Scott told reporters Tuesday that the team is contact with the league office about applying for a hardship exception. That would allow Los Angeles to add a 16th player to the roster, one more than the league maximum for the regular season. If granted, the Lakers would need to trim the roster back down to 15 players once forward Ryan Kelly (hamstring) returns.

The Lakers held the Western Conference's worst record entering Wednesday night's game vs. the Memphis Grizzlies.
