While the team is hopeful he could return in as early as two weeks, Griffin could be sidelined as many as six weeks, according to ESPN.
The injury means neither Griffin nor Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, who were both voted to the Western Conference's All-Star team, will play in the NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 15.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver will select the player to replace Griffin in the All-Star game.

Griffin has led the Clippers in scoring this season, averaging 22.5 points per game over 51 games.
