Jackson told Cleveland.com that Russell is a "great-looking kid. Great prospect," as he was leaving the Ohio State arena last week. NBA rules prohibit league officials from commenting publicly about college underclassmen.

Jackson has been attending college games and practices over the past several weeks, scouting the top prospects in college basketball. The Knicks currently have the worst record in the NBA and will have one of the top picks in June's draft.

Russell, a 6"5' true freshman point guard, is averaging 19.0 points, 5.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game this season. Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix ranks him as the No. 2 prospect in the 2015 NBA draft.​
