Warriors rookie Kevon Looney out 4-6 months after hip surgery
Golden State Warriors rookie Kevon Looney underwent surgery on Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his right hip, the team announced.
Looney, a 6'9" forward from UCLA, will begin rehabilitation immediately and is expected to miss four to six months of basketball activity.
“Kevon has his entire NBA career ahead of him and we felt that, in consultation with our medical staff, Kevon and his representatives, it was best to address the issue now,” Warriors general manager Bob Myers said. “He will have our complete support throughout the rehabilitation process and we are confident he will make a full recovery.”

Looney’s hip injury was a known issue entering June NBA draft, where the NBA champions drafted him with the 30th pick. In his one season at UCLA, Looney, 19, averaged 11.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, garnering second-team All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team accolades.
During NBA Summer League play with the Warriors in Las Vegas last month, Looney averaged 9.3 points and 7.2 rebounds over 19.7 minutes per game.
Looney shared a photo from the hospital on Instagram Thursday night. The operation was performed by Dr. Marc Philippon at the Vail Surgery Center in Vail, Colo.
