Report: Warriors start talks with Harrison Barnes at four years, $64M
The Warriors have opened contract negotiations with forward Harrison Barnes by offering him a four-year, $64 million extension, Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Barnes turned down the offer, Wojnarowski adds. He has until Oct. 31 to sign an extension, or else he will be a restricted free agent after next season.
Barnes, 23, was the seventh pick in the 2012 draft. He started 81 games a rookie and started all 82 games last season. Barnes averaged 10.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in 28.3 per game last season, both career highs. He also set career highs in field goal percentage and three-point percentage.
Barnes also thrived defensively in the Warriors’ “small ball” unit. Sports Illustrated’s Chris Ballard detailed Barnes’s defensive abilities in a story during the playoffs.
