Chicago Bulls forward Mike Dunleavy successfully underwent a microdiscectomy in his lower back on Friday, the team announced.
Dunleavy is expected to be out 8–10 weeks. He experienced occasional, lingering back discomfort throughout the summer before deciding to undergo surgery.
The 34-year-old wing started 63 games for the Bulls last season, averaging 9.4 points and 3.9 rebounds. He became a free agent at the end of the season and re-signed with the Bulls on a three-year, $14.4 million deal.
Tony Snell and Doug McDermott are expected to help assume Dunleavy’s minutes while he recovers.
