Kicks and Colors spotlights the variety of colorways—and the stories that go with—that brands’ unveil in key basketball sneakers.

Brand: Adidas

Sneaker: D Rose 6

Signature athlete: Derrick Rose

Colorway: South Side Lux

Story: Clear gray suede gives the new D Rose 6 Lux, the first colorway apart from the initial home and away announcements, a look to match its name. Inspiration from Derrick Rose’s appreciation for cars provides Chicago-led detailing, and the colorway releasing on Oct. 15 was meant to signify Rose’s journey from the South Side of Chicago into the NBA. The point guard is using premium materials for a design that mixes “bold architecture” with a “rugged feel,” providing a new design direction for the D Rose 6.
