Heat sign Briante Weber, who failed physical with team last month
The Miami Heat have signed former VCU point guard Briante Weber.
The Miami Heat have signed former VCU point guard Briante Weber, the team announced Monday. Undrafted rookie guard Corey Hawkins was waived to make room on the roster.
Weber, who tore his ACL and MCL in January, failed a physical when he was supposed to sign a training camp deal with the Heat last month.
Weber played four seasons at VCU, including two years as the starting point guard. He finished his college career third on the NCAA’s all-time steals list. He was just 12 steals short of the record when the knee injury cost him the final 10 games of the season.
Weber will battle for a spot on the team before the roster must be finalized on Oct. 26.
