Family: Lamar Odom’s speech has improved while in therapy
Lamar Odom’s family says the former NBA forward’s speech has begun to improve since beginning therapy, reports the Associated Press.
Alvina Alston, publicist for Odom’s aunt JaNean Mercer, said in a statement that Odom’s therapy has been “aggressive.” She did not divulge the specifics of the treatment.
“He is beginning to gradually flourish both mentally and physically,” Alston said. “His use of speech has increased and he’s more cognitively responsive.”
Odom was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel on Oct. 13. The Nye County (Nev.) Sheriff’s Office confirmed reports that Odom had been using cocaine and “sexual performance enhancers” during a multi-day stay at the Love Ranch in Crystal, Nev.
On Monday, it was reported that Odom had begun physical therapy and had been improving. This came after he reportedly started speaking and using a breathing mask instead of a breathing tube. Odom was transferred from the La Vegas hospital to one in Los Angeles.
Odom played with the Lakers, Clippers, Heat and Mavericks during his 14-season NBA career. He won two championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010, and was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011.
