Report: Pelicans cut Nate Robinson, nearing deal with Toney Douglas
The New Orleans Pelicans have released veteran guard Nate Robinson and are nearing a deal with former Indiana Pacers guard Toney Douglas, according to NBC Sports.
The Pelicans signed Robinson with the hope that he could be the answer for a thin point guard position. Starter Jrue Holiday is limited to 15 minutes a game until January as he recovers from a surgically repaired right tibia, while Norris Cole (high ankle sprain) and Tyreke Evans (knee) are both out.
Robinson, however, struggled in his first two games in New Orleans, playing just 23 minutes with four assists and no points.
The Pacers waived Douglas on Oct. 26 in order to reach the roster limit before the start of the regular season. He averaged 6.6 points and 1.6 assists this preseason.
In six NBA seasons, Douglas is averaging 18.9 minutes, 7.6 points and 2.2 rebounds. He played in 12 games with the Pelicans last season, but spent most of 2014-2015 playing for the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese basketball Association. He appeared in 35 games in China, averaging 19.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals.
