Kevin Durant: Attention from Wizards fans can be ‘disrespectful’
Ahead of Tuesday’s matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards, Thunder star Kevin Durantcalled the attention he has received from Wizards fans “disrespectful” to his current team.
Durant will be an unrestricted free agent next summer, and Washington will be one of the many teams chasing the four-time scoring champion. Durant’s connections to the D.C. area have exacerbated rumors of him joining the Wizards.
Last season, Wizards fans wore Washington jerseys with Durant’s name and number on the back and made signs asking him to join the team. At one point, an advertisement on the jumbotron showed Durant in a Wizards jersey.
“It was crazy,” Durant told Yahoo! Sports’ Michael Lee. “It was kind of disrespectful, in my opinion, because you’ve got a great team there already, that deserves your full, 100 percent support. And I wouldn’t like that if I was on that team. And I didn’t like that. But it comes with it nowadays. It’s a part of it.”
