Mark Cuban discusses Rajon Rondo trade: ‘S--- happens’
Mark Cuban weighed in on last season’s trade for Rajon Rondo on Wednesday.
The Mavericks moved for Rondo last December in an attempt to bolster their title chances, but the mercurial point guard proved a difficult fit within the team’s schemes and philosophically with head coach Rick Carlisle.
Cuban discussed his gambit before Wednesday’s game against the Boston Celtics.
“S--- happens,” Cuban said, according to Masslive.com’s Jay King. “Right? There’s a lot of risks I’ve taken that have worked out just fine. They’re not all gonna work.
“I think when it's all said and done, that Crowder-for-Powell trade will be a break even,” Cuban added, referring to Jae Crowder and Dwight Powell, two of the other players in the deal now playing big roles for Boston and Dallas, respectively. The deal, in its entirety, sent Jameer Nelson, Brandan Wright, a 2015 first-rounder, a 2016 second-rounder and a $12.9 million trade exception to Boston in exchange for Rondo and Powell.
Rondo signed with the Sacramento Kings in the off-season and was averaging 12.5 points, 9.5 assists and 7.1 rebounds entering Wednesday.
Crowder is averaging 10.8 points and 5.1 rebounds for Boston, while Powell has emerged as a key reserve for Dallas, averaging 10.5 points and 8.1 rebounds.
