Open Floor Podcast: Frank Vogel talks Pacers, Larry Bird and NBA coaching
In the latest episode of the Open Floor Podcast, SI.com's Chris Mannix is joined by Pacers head coach Frank Vogel and former Nets assistant general manager Bobby Marks.
Vogel discusses a wide range of topics on the interview, from his days as a pizza delivery man to working his way up the NBA ranks from a video coordinator with the Celtics to the head coach of the Pacers. Vogel talks about his relationship with Larry Bird (including a 17-hour plane ride they once shared in his early Pacer days), the behind-the-scenes events that led him to become the team's head coach and also about Paul George's shift to a small-ball power forward.

Later in the program, Marks calls in to discuss his lengthy career with the Nets. He details Kobe Bryant's pre-draft workout—the best by any prospect he had ever seen—and recalls why the Nets selected Kerry Kittles over the future Hall of Famer. He also talks about why John Calipari didn't work in the NBA and why the Brooklyn Nets pulled the trigger on the Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett trade.
