Watch: Craig Sager interviews Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich
In late October, Craig Sager made his return to the sideline to cover the NBA for TNT. On Thursday night, he cracked through the tough exterior of Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich during the team’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.
In an interview after the first quarter, Popovich told Sager that it was “the first time he’s enjoyed doing the ridiculous interview we're required to do, and it’s because you're back here with us.”
In 2014, Sager was diagnosed with leukemia. He underwent chemotherapy and received a bone marrow transplant from his son. In March, he returned to work for Turner, but shortly after he learned that his leukemia had returned.

Sager then underwent another bone marrow transplant from his son and a stem cell transplant.
“I've been in the hospital for months hoping to do this again,” said Sager during the interview with Popovich.
