Deron Williams hit a corner three as double overtime expired to beat the Sacramento Kings 117–116 on Tuesday night in Dallas.

Sacramento’s Darren Collison air-balled a jumper up two on the previous possession, leaving 2.3 seconds on the clock—just enough time for Williams to run off a screen, catch the ball in the left corner, up-fake Rudy Gay and stroke home the winning points.

A sideline dogpile ensued in front of the visitors’ bench as the Mavericks celebrated, Williams’s clutch shot having ended a two-game skid. Williams led the Mavericks with 25 points on the night, replacing J.J. Barea in his return to the starting lineup.

DeMarcus Cousins had dominated the second overtime for the Kings, scoring his team’s first nine points. A Rudy Gay three with 1:20 left gave Sacramento a 116–109 lead. But Dallas rallied back with a layup from Williams and a step-back three in transition from the ageless Nowitzki to cut the deficit to two and set up the final sequence.

Nowitzki also hit a critical jumper to tie the game at the end of the first overtime and another key shot to give Dallas a three-point lead toward the end of regulation. The 37-year-old, ever-game, finished with 23 points.

Cousins recorded an elusive turnover triple-double, giving it up 10 times despite a dominant 35 points and 17 rebounds (he also had six steals). His driving layup tied the game at the regulation buzzer.
