Watch: Grizzlies’ Mario Chalmers beats Pistons on off-balance shot
Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mario Chalmers hit an unusual buzzer beater to defeat the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night.
With the game tied at 101 and the clock running down, Chalmers, already in midst of a big performance, dribbled to his left, draped by defenders Reggie Jackson and Marcus Morris. As Marc Gasol set what was probably an uncalled moving screen, Chalmers cut back to split the double team and lost control of the ball, which bounced toward the free throw line with two seconds left.
Chalmers recovered, beat Aron Baynes to the loose basketball and in one motion, scooped it up and hoisted an off-balance look that left the Pistons dumbfounded and ended the game 103–101.

Starting in place of Mike Conley, who has not played since Jan. 4 in Portland due to a sore Achilles, Chalmers finished with a team-high 25 points and eight assists, plus four steals in one of his best performances of the season. The Miami Heat traded Chalmers to the Grizzlies on Nov. 10.

Memphis moved to 22–19. Detroit fell to 21–18. The Grizzlies are in sixth place in the West and a half-game behind the Mavericks for fifth.
