Andre Drummond sets NBA record with 23 missed free throws
Andre Drummond set a new NBA record for missed free throws on Wednesday when he missed 23 of 36 attempts in the Detroit Pistons’ win over the Houston Rockets.
Wilt Chamberlain had previously held the record since 1967 with 22 misses. Dwight Howard holds the record for attempts with 39, but Drummond’s 36 ranks third.
Drummond led the team with 11 rebounds and scored 17 points, but made just 13 free throws for the 21 times he was intentionally fouled. Still, Detroit went on to win the game, 123–114, to improve their record to 23–19.
“It didn’t work,” Rockets interim coach J.B. Bickerstaff said, according to ESPN. “That’s it. That’s all I have to say about that.”
Drummond also had little to say about the record, simply commenting, “We won the game today.”
