Wizards coach Randy Wittman will miss the next two games following the unexpected death of his brother, the team announced. Washington visits the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday and hosts the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
Wittman led the Wizards to a 123–122 win over the Rockets in Houston on Saturday just hours after learning his older brother, Rick, had died.
An emotional Wittman discussed the news in his postgame meeting with the media, and said that his brother was with the him in spirit.
“Tough day,” he said, holding back tears. “But he was here. You know, he watches every game in a La-Z-Boy, and he’s up in heaven watching in a La-Z-Boy.”
Washington is 21–24 this season.
