Report: Clippers’ Blake Griffin had second surgery on broken hand

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin reportedly underwent a second procedure on his fractured right hand.

Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin underwent a second procedure on his fractured right hand this week, reports ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne.

Shelburne adds that Griffin’s original timetable of returning in four to six weeks remains unchanged. She reports that Griffin’s second procedure was related to the original surgery he had last week.

Griffin sustained the broken hand after punching a team employee, reportedly during an argument in Toronto. He has not played since Christmas, after initially sustaining a quad injury.

In a statement of apology, Griffin described the incident by saying, “A situation among friends escalated and I regret the way I handled myself towards someone I care about.” The NBA is investigating the fight.

Earlier Friday, The Orange County Register’s Dan Woike reported that the Nuggets contacted Los Angeles about acquiring Griffin but were turned away. Griffin, the No. 1 selection in the 2009 draft, is averaging 23.2 points and 8.7 rebounds per game this season.
