The Toronto Raptors’ final quarter began with deep exhales, and ended with triumph.

In a 102–96 Game 1 loss to Miami, Raptors guard Kyle Lowry, who had struggled to hit the side of barn all game, hit a half-court heave as time expired in regulation to tie the score at 90–90 and send the game to overtime.

Facing a 10-point deficit early in the period, Toronto battled back to cut the Miami lead to three with 6.5 seconds remaining. They were then helped by a foul on an inbounds pass, which allowed Terrence Ross to head to the stripe for two shots. He split a pair, then Heat center Hassan Whiteside hit a pair, then it was time for a desperation shot.

Miami got out to a six-point lead to begin overtime, and pulled away late to win 102–96.

Lowry finished with just seven points on 3-of-13 shooting, failing to compliment 20-point performances from Jonas Valanciunas and DeMar Derozan, and a 19-spot from Terrence Ross. Goran Dragic proved to be Toronto’s undoing, hitting several clutch shots late and finishing with 26 on 10-of-20 from the field.
